Pumping Support & Flange Fitting
Pumping should work for you—not cause pain, stress, or wasted time.
As a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) with advanced training in flange fitting, I’m here to help you find your best fit through a hands-on, research-backed approach that improves comfort, milk output, and efficiency.
One of the best parts? You get to try lots of flange sizes in one session—so you don’t have to spend extra time or money buying parts that might not work.
If you’re not local, don’t worry—virtual visits are available, and we can figure out what works best for you.
Still pregnant? No problem at all. We can start gently now or prepare for after baby arrives, depending on your timing and provider’s guidance.
FAQs
-
We measure ahead of time using my guided method (not your average sizing advice!)
I come to you with a variety of flanges in 1mm increments, starting as small as 10mm
You’ll try different sizes and shapes during your appointment to find out in real time what gives the greatest comfort and best output
We’ll address any pumping questions: pump settings, schedules, milk supply, returning to work, state and federal pumping laws, and more
I check in afterward to make sure everything is still working well

Most lactation support still relies on outdated sizing methods. I use a research-backed approach developed by the first IBCLC to publish studies on optimal flange fit.
This method often recommends smaller, more snug sizes—which has been shown to improve comfort, milk output, and efficiency.
During your visit, you’ll try real flanges in real time—no guessing from a chart. We'll find the fit that works best for your body, your pump, and your goals.

You might be surprised—but research and clinical experience show that hard (non-flexible) flanges often lead to:
A more consistent seal
More effective milk removal
Greater comfort—when properly sized
Many people assume silicone flanges will feel gentler. But in some cases, softer materials can actually reduce output or cause discomfort—especially with elastic tissue or strong suction.
Hard flanges more closely mimic the suction and sensory input of a baby’s mouth, which helps trigger the hormonal response needed to release and maintain milk flow.
That said—every body is different. I bring a full range of options: soft flanges, inserts, and specialty styles. We’ll work together to find what feels best and supports your comfort, pump, and goals.

I’m always expanding my options, so if you’ve tried a different pump and want to pass it along, feel free to reach out!

Many parents find lactation support in the NICU outdated or overwhelming. Flange fittings often rely on old methods, and pumping routines aren’t always adapted to fit real-life responsibilities.
As an occupational therapist and Certified Lactation Counselor, I offer personalized, evidence-based support. If you're local, I can meet you in the NICU to provide:
Flange fitting using current, research-backed methods
Guidance on pump settings and routines that work with your life
Support balancing pumping with other demands (like older kids, work, or saving leave time)
Education on how your breastmilk supports your preemie’s unique needs
Not local? Virtual support is absolutely an option—we’ll find what works best for you.
Your milk is powerful, and with the right support, it’s absolutely possible to make enough. I’m here to help you meet your goals—on your terms.

Getting back to feeding at the breast
Combining breastfeeding and pumping
Or transitioning to exclusive pumping
As a Certified Lactation Counselor and occupational therapist, I can:
Assess your baby’s latch and offer tips for positioning and technique
Perform an initial oral motor screening to check for anything that might affect latch

I don’t bill insurance directly—this allows me to offer flexible, personalized care without the restrictions of insurance-based models.
I do accept HSA/FSA payments for pumping consultations and flange fittings.
